Staying in Sunset Town means staying in the south of the island: Kem Beach is a 10-minute drive from Venice Hotel, Phu Quoc Prison 9 minutes, Sao Beach 17 minutes, and the Hon Thom cable car is within walking distance. The north, with VinWonders, Safari and Grand World, is more than an hour away and a full-day trip. This guide compares the two directions by distance measured on Google Maps, ticket prices and the number of nights you stay, so you do not spend the day on the road.

Distances are from Venice Hotel in light traffic; Roma and Sakurakyo differ by a few minutes. Ticket prices follow Sun World and VinWonders as of September 2026. The reception desks of all three hotels sell tickets at preferential rates and arrange tours and private cars by the day, with prices on request.

The south in half a day: Kem Beach, Sao Beach, Phu Quoc Prison

Kem Beach is 4 km away, with fine white sand and the calmest water in the rainy season when the west coast gets waves. Entry is free, a sunbed and umbrella cost about 50,000 VND, a SUP board 100,000 to 200,000 VND. Sun World runs a free bus between Sunset Town and Kem Beach from about 08:30 to 22:30.

Sao Beach is 8 km away, wider and busier, with plenty of seafood restaurants for a lunch by the sea. Phu Quoc Prison is 3.6 km away, open 07:00 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00, free entry, guides 100,000 to 200,000 VND, and modest dress is expected. All three fit into one morning or afternoon, with time to be back at Kiss Bridge for sunset.

Hon Thom without a car

An Duong cable car station is a 10-minute walk from Venice and 2 minutes from Sakurakyo. Tickets are 810,000 VND for adults and 679,000 VND for children, including Aquatopia and Exotica, with a preferential rate at reception. Details in Things to do in Sunset Town.

The north in a full day: Safari, VinWonders, Grand World

The three sit side by side at Bai Dai, 48 to 52 km from Sunset Town, about 65 to 75 minutes by car each way. Vinpearl Safari opens 08:30 to 16:00, last safari bus at 15:20, tickets 850,000 VND for adults and 650,000 VND for children 1 m to 1.4 m. VinWonders opens 09:00 to 19:30, tickets 925,000 VND for adults and 695,000 VND for children, including the water park, the aquarium and the 18:45 evening show. Grand World has free entry and is at its best after 18:00 when the lights come on.

A sensible plan: leave the hotel at 07:30 after breakfast, Safari from 09:00 to 12:30, lunch, VinWonders from 14:00, the 18:45 show, a stroll around Grand World, and back in Sunset Town around 22:00. On a single day, pick one of the two parks and do not force both if you have small children.

Shared tours, private cars and tickets at reception

The reception desks of Venice, Roma and Sakurakyo sell VinWonders, Safari and Hon Thom cable car tickets at preferential rates, book shared south-island tours and four-island speedboat tours, and have 7-seat and 16-seat private cars for half-day or full-day trips to the north. Prices change with the season and group size, so ask reception when you book or on check-in to secure a seat, especially at weekends.

In between: Ham Ninh and Duong Dong night market

Ham Ninh fishing village on the east coast is 23 km away, a 35-minute drive, known for steamed crab and its long pier out to sea, good for a late lunch. Duong Dong night market is 24 km away, 45 minutes, the busiest on the island from 19:00, with grilled seafood and rolled ice cream.

If you already have the fireworks and the VUI-Fest night market in Sunset Town, Duong Dong night market can be skipped to save a 90-minute round trip at night. Ham Ninh pairs well with an afternoon at Sao Beach on the way back.

2 nights

South only: day one Hon Thom and sunset at Kiss Bridge, day two Kem Beach or Sao Beach, then Phu Quoc Prison. No hours lost on the road.

3 nights

Add a day in the north with Safari or VinWonders and Grand World in the evening, with a private car for the day booked through reception.

With small children

Favour the south: Aquatopia, Kem Beach and the fireworks from the balcony. If you go north, do Safari in the morning and come back for nap time, and skip VinWonders.

How far is Sunset Town from VinWonders?

About 48 km, a 65-minute drive each way. Vinpearl Safari is slightly further at 52 km and 72 minutes.

Should I move to a hotel in the north for a night?

Only if you want both Safari and VinWonders in full. For one park, a day trip from Sunset Town by private car is enough, and you still have the fireworks in the evening.

Where can I hire a car for the north?

The reception of Venice, Roma and Sakurakyo has 7-seat and 16-seat private cars for half or full days, prices on request. Ride-hailing works too, but getting a car back from Bai Dai in the evening can be hard.

Can I get to the north by bus?

Yes, but you change lines in Duong Dong and it takes about 2 hours each way, only worth it for solo travellers with time to spare.

Stay in the south, and be back for every sunset

Venice, Roma and Sakurakyo are minutes from Kem Beach, Sao Beach and the cable car, and reception takes care of tickets, tours and cars.
